Holy Words - Bible Verses to Comfort and Convict

I always wince a little when I see a list of "Best Bible Verses." I wince because "best" implies that there's a "worst" and there just are no bad Bible verses.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness"

- 2 Timothy 3:16 NIV

Even though there are no best Scripture Verses, there are verses that Christians claim and cling to - verses that seem to have special application to certain stages of our lives. Here you'll find a list of some of those verses.

• In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth

  Genesis 1:1

• And God said, "Let there be light,"

  Genesis 1:3

• For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

  John 3:16

• The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

  2 Chronicles 7:14 - These are some hard words. Do you want to know why the world's so messed up? It's because we Christians have dropped the ball. The unsaved do exactly as they're expected to do; why don't we Christians what God expects us to do?

• But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

  Galatians 5:22-23

• Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

• Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

Esther 4:14. God has a job for you to do. If you won't do it, He'll send someone else in your place and that person will receive the blessing that God intended for you.

• Bad company corrupts good character.

A Life Verse is a piece of Scripture that you claim as having special significance for you - a verse that you covenant to live your life by.

• Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.

  Matthew 22:9. As a motorcycle enthusiast, this is one of my favorites. Many people are surprised to find that there is a strong evangelistic movement within the biker community.

• Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

  Matthew 28:19

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:17. This is a double-ended message: "Faith comes from hearing" - if you "hear" the things of God, your faith in God will grow. If you immerse yourself in the things of the world, then your faith will grow in worldly things.
